Eric Lewis, whoÍs stage name is ELEW, began his musical career as a pure jazz pianist, performing with leaders such as Wynton Marsalis, Elvin Jones, Roy Hargrove, and Cassandra Wilson. Lewis took his career to heighted state of existence, however, when he forged his own musical genre with the release of his independently produced album ELEW Rockjazz Volume 1. The album includes covers of popular songs but with a revolutionary fusion of professional jazz and prevalent rock. Lewis has preformed in the White House for Barack and Michelle Obama and has received a standing ovation on AmericaÍs Got Talent. His relentless innovation and disregard for the musical status quo has shocked and angered the jazz world even as it has attracted the rapt attention and following of mainstream political, artistic, and cultural leaders from across the globe.
