David Ewing Duncan is an award-winning, best-selling author of books, essays, articles and short stories; and a television, radio and film producer and correspondent. He writes columns for Fortune and for MIT Technology Review, and is the Chief Correspondent for public radio’s “Biotech Nation.” He writes for the New York Times, Wired, Discover, National Geographic, and many other publications.
David is the Founder and Editorial Director of the BioAgenda Institute, an independent, nonprofit program of events and educational initiatives that discusses and analyzes crucial issues in life sciences — which is being folded into the new Center for Life Science Policy at UC Berkeley. He has been the host of the annual BioAgenda Summit.
At UC Berkeley he is the Director of the Center for Life Science Policy and a Visiting Researcher at the Graduate School of Journalism. His books include Experimental Man: What one man’s body reveals about his future, your health, and our toxic world (Wiley) and Masterminds: Genius, DNA and the Quest to Rewrite Life (Harper Perennial). He wrote the international bestseller, Calendar: Humanity’s Epic Struggle to Determine a True and Accurate Year (Harper-Collins/Avon), published in 19 languages, and a bestseller in 14 countries.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBerkeley, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBerkeley event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
